I cant seem to fall asleep. (I knew picking up that coffee was a bad idea.)
I'm going to make most of my time and share some photo's, not my own but random ones I love. More specifically I wanted to note how much I enjoy this destroyed piano key board. It reminds me of summer back in Winnipeg when my cousins and I would venture off to different neighborhoods to find short cuts to get home and the terrible graffiti that my area had to offer, the suburbs. I miss my cousins, they're the most amazing company at anytime of the day. The visit in April is much anticipated.

Random thought: I ate spicy noodles today and my first thought was that it would taste even better if I watched it with Lord of the Rings playing in the background. Don't ask me to explain.

With the weather warming up, I've been avoiding the streetcars and walking as much as my feet can tolerate it. There's a bridge near my place that I always cross and I've been thinking a lot about its structure and the weight that it holds on a daily basis. That made me think of the quality and durability of RTW clothing, which makes me think back to buying quality over quantity. I'm still looking to invest in quality pieces that I can get a lot of wear out of. For now, I'm staying away from the evil one-wear pieces that I always gravitate towards. I'm really committing this time.

Fashion week in Toronto is very much alive and there's so much talent here. The venue is once again at the Heritage Center and although I miss the large white tents at Nathan Phillips, this new venue is a fresh change.

With Greta, Mark Fast, Pink Tartan and Joe Fresh, unveiling their collection earlier this week, I can't help but dream of Fall/Winter wear and skipping summer all together. I'll be making my way to Lucian Matis f/w 2011 "Chaos" collection tonight and I'm excited to see what he shows tonight, two seasons ago I was obsessing over the draping and head gear. I'm was all in! Definitely excited to see the crowd and some familiar faces tonight! LGFW, you never disappoint.

Dress to Kill Magazine: Spring Issue Launch

It was literally elbow-to-elbow at Briscola for Dress to Kill Magazines Spring Issue Launch party. The magazine, the people and the atmosphere served for a beautiful night to party the night away. The music was provided by Vaneska and drinks care of Peroni. Bloggers were present and models lead the pack with fresh faces with easy dressing, hair pulled back or lose waves. Bloggers were quick to snap the fashion conscious, including myself. ha. Although it was a quick lived moment, I would do it again.

Back and hoping to do a little more than 2 posts a year. (ha) Happy New Year! What was 2010 like after July last year you ask? I pretty much got a promotion and lost my weekend life. Within half a year I transferred from one city to another for work, I moved closer downtown, I went home to Winnipeg around Halloween, although it was short lived. And here I am now, hoping to reconnect with my love and obsession with fashion blogs, street style photos and fashion news. So in terms of new years resolutions, my major resolution has been budgeting accordingly to travel more, see more and just simply to enjoy life.

From Two Months

Where do I begin to write the details of the last two months? My last entry was May 14 so I'll continue from my birthday which was May 20. I'm not one to party and drink without close family and friends and since I was not in my home town to celebrate my birthday I went to Canada's Wonderland with my sister, sister's boyfriend and cousin. I relived my childhood memories and placed aside all my worries and entered the gates of Wonderland with one goal in mind, to ride the Behemoth and snag myself a Domo. After plenty of rides at the Drop Tower due to no line ups, regrettably spending $15 for a burger for lunch, burning under the scorching sun and successfully snagging a Domo after a fierce game of Whack a Mole -we called it a day and went home happy.
Right before my birthday I was in the midst of rounding up a good handful of interviews after finishing school with a couple of different companies all involving visual merchandising and with great thought I returned to a company I know and love, Aritzia.

Summary of June: My family was in town for an amazing two weeks for my convocation. The day of my graduation it was with great pleasure and a surprise that Jeanne Becker was going to be present. Jeanne was awarded with an Honorary Degree for her many accomplishments and influence in the fashion industry, in which she gracefully received. I graduated with Honors in Fashion Arts and I am very proud to say that I have accomplished what I came here in Toronto to do and with so many opportunities out there, I'm ready to snag the one that I feel will benefit my career in the long run. This summer has been amazing so far, with work and my internship at the magazine and for now, I'm taking it all in and enjoying my summer after 17 straight months in school -this breather is well deserved.

More than anything else this fall season I'm looking to play with texture from brocades, to crocheted lace, from fur to playing with a gauge of knits. More and more, I've been admiring the simplicity of dressing and the occasional primary colours popping out. Anyone who really knows me, I'm a black, white and grey kind of gal. Secretly Gothic. ha. Lately, I've been obsessed with the combination of black, khaki, olive green and gun metal coloured accessories. Sound familiar? Indeed it is the fashion house, Balmain that has me hooked, and so is the rest of the fashion world with army inspired dressing. I suppose with the influence of interning at a fashion magazine I have the privileged to see and touch such wonderful pieces that I can't help to be inspired by everything that comes in. I thought tribal was way off how I would dress, but I'm finding myself gravitating towards tribal prints for this summer. Just a tad bit to revamp the wardrobe. What are you looking forward to this summer now that the heat is rising? or even more exciting, your desired Fall wear and accessories?

Give us something new to look forward too! Millions of dollars are poured into promoting a fashion houses ad campaigns, I'm just happy that they're leaving the majority of fashion ads to models not celebs. Don't get me started on perfume ads. I can understand why fashion houses are looking to get exposure by placing an ad with a celebrity, but I don't buy it, go away Hollywood. And so, back to the fall campaigns, Givenchy is the first to release their fall/winter campaign and it's getting me very excited. Mariacarla Boscono is once again taking part for the campaign which makes me want to get rid of my layers, part my hair, stay away from the sun, look pale and sport some fire red lips. J'adore Mariacarla! She is the stark image of cool to me. What do you think about Givenchy's fall campaign? It always feels like a cult, a cool crowd that you're dying to be a part of, at least I am.

If you don't already know him, shame on you for thinking you're a shoe fanatic. Besides the fact that he is seriously talented and his background training is proof of it (and I suppose the fact that his uncle designed shoes for YSL helped) his designs are avant garde and never conforms to trends. His inspiration for his fall collection included Star Trek meeting the 80's. I'm not a fan of Star Trek, but I'm head over heels for the 80's. His collection has always combined architectural edge and killer height. He captured my heart further by including wedged booties. Yum. The heels of the shoes remind me of icebergs in space, I suppose the construction was intentional to relate to Star Trek... Anyway... What do you think of his designs?

Zara Lookbook summer 2010

I've been obsessing over Miu Miu's spring/summer 2010 prints hoping and wishing that Zara would replicate the cats and swallow bird prints and surely enough, they have. I've been popping in and out of every Zara store I've come across and until today, I discovered a couple pieces from their lookbook in store, with minimal sizes available. With much anticipation, I grabbed everything that was Miu Miu inspired and tried them on. Verdict: All fails. The picture above didn't even have the collars, which is supposed to be the best part!!! And the one navy summer dress I tried on with swallows was made out of jersey, with a raw edge, and was a very unflattering length for me. All in all, it was not worth the effort of altering and the quality turned me off even more so. I suppose the real deal will only suffice...

For me, May has always been about patio parties, bbq's, Friday night liquor games, dancing your pants off, or in my case making a fool out of myself by attempting to replicate dance moves from Ms. Sunico. (ha) and pretty much everything that summer is supposed to fee like. Back home, there's only two months of summer, and you really have to make the most of it. Time flys and the massive June event has always been The Red River Ex since I was a little girl. Oh, Winnipeg. I miss your simplicity.
I'm excited to share that I'm graduating in June and my whole family is coming to Toronto to cheer me on. Let's hope the auditorium has enough seats. With my family coming in June, I'm not expecting to go home anytime soon. I need to continue to make my mark here and find employment. ha. With school over, I'm interning for the mean time until something fabulous comes around. Until then, I really just want to take the time and enjoy the precious time that I have until work life begins. I've been on the go since moving to Toronto and I feel like now that my schedule is winding down, I can breath and really enjoy what I've accomplished. Breath easy...

5 Exams, 1 Project, 16°C Outside: this is not looking good.
I've really done everything to avoid studying and working on my project. What exactly? Beats me, I just know that I've been spending way too much money that I do not have. How come my rants always turns into an issue that deals with money? Dear lord. It's 2am. This can't be good. Anyways, the pressure is on to really brag about something fantastic to my parents when they witness my convocation ceremony in June. I am proud to say that I had a rather interesting and successful (err) interview with an amazing company, but fingers crossed on that one.

So, plans after graduating... I want to travel. I always say that but I think it's time to really commit and save money to just up and leave. Yet again I'm torn because I know I should be working to save money and pay off my student loans *yikes* ... I say you only live once, so spend for the moment. Right? ha. Here I am justifying my purchases and I'm finding myself returning more things than ever before. Rarely do I ever experience buyers remorse, but since I'm spending moolah that I don't have, second thoughts kick in. Like today... a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Days like this, you can't be cooped up! I assured myself I would stroll downtown, sip my Americano and simply, people watch. A free activity. Once again, coffee in one hand and a dangerous loose wallet in the other, I went home with two shirts, hair product, a long jersey dress, and black flats (it was an exchange!!). Horrible right? I think that's what prompted me to sell my preloved clothes. (check it out here!) So here I am, thinking what else I can sell to pay off the bills. ha.

And that above is going to be me starting April 21-April 29.
Well, have a great weekend! I'm going to hustle for the next two weeks... bah.

Face Off: Givenchy v.s J.Campbell in wedges

Is it evil to say that I was actually waiting for Jeffery Campbell to rip these babies off the runway? The majority who purchase Jeffery Campbell know that he's notrious for ripping off designer shoes (ie: Acne wedges, Burberry Prorsum treaded booties, to Chanel clogs) but I've been in love with the Givenchy spring 2010 wedges since they debuted last year, and I'm pretty impressed! I'm simply obsessed with wedges! To be decked out in Givenchy would be a dream but to own a pair of those delicious wedges would be enough to satisfy me for the year. (yes, the year. I am materialistic, and I am not ashamed.) Unfortunately, I could not locate the actual price of the original but the Jeffrey Campbell is priced at $120 a pop. I'm excited and not ashamed of this one. What do you think, it's obvious Givenchy is superior in every aspect and detail, but what do you think about the replica?

With the success of last weekend’s warm merino wool worthy weather, I was looking forward to another sunny weekend of people watching while sipping my delish Americano up and down Queen to Younge. Unfortunately, the warm weather was perfect to conjure up some rainy weather the following week. I'm completely fine with rain, but with mixed with wind, it becomes a challenge. Wet dog smell and drenched clothes is not attractive, unless you have an umbrella that's safe from being flipped inside out, then all you need are your rain boots. Have fun, I'll be staying in and shopping online...

I had a fairly eventful day yesterday. On Friday's I'm usually interning and attempting to dress to impress is always a must. (unless it's a lazy day and decide to wear a denim vest, wow... that's me on my first day interning at a fashion magazine. Biker boots, Margiela inspired tee with horses and a denim vest and blunt bangs. hahah ew. What was I thinking. I admit, I felt edgy that day.) Anyways, after interning I headed straight to my friends place to have a bit of wine and just enjoy a girls night out. After two bottles of wine, gossip, magazine digging and fashion related job hunting online, we wobbled over to the Village to get a couple more drinks. I have the lowest tolerance for liquor, so I was already sporting the heavy eyes. After drinks and Cajun fries I headed back to my friends place to pick up my newly purchased sewing machine. Given that the liquor had yet to settle, I looked like a mess lugging around a stack of magazines and a sewing machine in the middle of the night in the rain. One hour later, a couple of dirty stares and awkward smiles, I was home. I'm happy it's the weekend...even with the rain.

Instead of studying, I have once again gravitated to style.com.
I'm obsessed with the idea of high necklines, school girl skirts mixed with leather and fur by Proenza this season. The model's are covered up head to toe but with little peeps of skin made it so sexy, like the slits of skin exposed from the thigh high socks, or geometric cut outs on the sides of a dress. I would never see myself in graffiti pants but their looking so bad ass with the school girl skirts and clean sharp collars.

Obvs the mass retailer never wins, but what a damn good replica. So good, I bought a pair.
(dammit...rent's due next week) My reasoning is that I rarely fall in love these days, and when I saw these babies, I was drooling. Strange, mine are open toe...way better. Once clogs came rolling into the fashion room a month or two ago, I honestly was disgusted. Although, once I see a pair in black leather with a wooden heel and with the bonus of a rubberized sole, I was sold. I never really thought I would buy into it but Zara has done it again for me. (the first time would be the inspired Balenciaga bold shoulder blazer I bought from Zara, what a beaut.) I'll prove you wrong Charisse (my bff) that I will sport them outside of the bar!! ha.

Ok, so this trend has been surfacing for awhile now and ever since Wang showcased the look for his fab SS2010 collection, the style has been a go to look for a lot of girls lately. (ew, forget about Ms.Conrad) I'm talking about the girls that follow the runway looks, I suppose lookbook comes to mind first. It's not all about the one side braid across the forehead now, it's the milkmaid to the loose thick gathered braid to th side. I've been sporting the milkmaid hair style since summer myself, but since I chopped off my hair, I've been missing it ever since. Extentions are in order. What do you think? NYC Fall 2010 Collection Countdown...

I've always enjoyed Fall/Winter collections to Spring/Summer. It could be because I enjoy the layering and bundling, and the muted, darker colours. I promised this year I would put a little more punch into my wardrobe, colour wise, but I have yet to commit to it. Over the weekend I hauled ass to Ikea and purchased beautiful wooden white hangers. I cleaned out my closet hoping to eliminate the keepers and the pieces that simply sit around that do nothing for me. I've decided to sell off the clothes that I don't use anymore inorder to start saving for a grad gift trip for myself. So far, it's been successful with my sister and cousin eyeing my old treasures. Who knew I had so much clothes and accessories lying around. (Of course Dennis has been telling me that all along.)

I'm really excited for next week! Though I will not be attending, maybe one day I will, is New York's Fall 2010 shows! I'm excited to see my fav, Alexander Wang! After NYC shows, I'll be glued to style.com waiting to see the Fall collections of Rick Owens, Stella McCartney, Burberry Prorsum, Chanel, Givenchy, Balmain and Alexander McQueen! This is actually the only time I wish I had an iphone.

Have you ever heard the saying "you will always go back to what you fell in love with first" in regards to career moves. I'm still on the path to creating one for myself but I've been feeling in a rut lately as to where I would be after I graduate. I think I've been putting more pressure on myself more than anything lately since I'm in my last semester. The reason why I came to Toronto has changed so much last year, but I suppose that's what happens when you get exposed to so much more than you expected. I've met so many young, motivated, ambitious and wonderful people in Toronto that it's difficult not to be inspired by what great things they've done so far. Sure, you meet the jerks and over achievers, but there are also individuals who show real passion and ambition that makes me wonder where I could be headed in 5 months, 8 months or a year from now!! It's always a good thing to question yourself as to where you want to be down the road. At least for me, I panic if I don't have a plan. How about you?

I think our generation is open to so many options and it becomes difficult for us to really choose what the right path is, career wise. Although, at the end of the day you need to be happy with what you're doing and who you are.

So... my goals:
-to graduate in June
and marry rich. (ha.)

Back in Toronto from spending the holidays back home in Winnipeg. I can't wrap it around my head that I was away for a month! What was I doing exactly? Or what is there to do in Winnipeg? Many things my friend. I spent most of my time hanging out with my cousins, and the boyfriend eating out and getting fat. I can definitely say I over indulged, but I justified the gluttony by reminding myself about my suicide schedule for my last semester with a full time schedule of school, internships and work, when would I find time to eat anything other than noodles and eggo waffles? We ate at our usual places. Craving Chinese food? May I recommend if you are ever in Winnipeg (maybe a concert?) make your way to Huong Pu Restaurant on Pembina and with that I suggest "Spicy Eggplant", it's eggplant with ground beef, ginger and hot sauce. I am now salivating. I also tried out some new restaurants that my cousins were raving about. So like I mentioned, my holidays was all about eating and eating even more.

I intentionally left my laptop behind because I knew if I brought it then I wouldn't have been out as much as I was. But now that I think about it, it would have saved me from scarfing down so much bad food. Well, what's done is done.

So, my last semester! And there's a possibility of a strike. Hoo-fuckin'-rah. They haven't made it official yet, but they definitely voted. We'll find out in the next week or so. And so my dilemma. I was planning to drop my part time job because my last semester is packed as it is and to mention I am financially disabled. (eh?) Do I keep my poorly paid part time job in case my school goes on strike so I can work while the strike goes on? Or do I quite and just cover more intern hours to get as much experience as I can for my last semester? I really want to here the last one from everyone. But to be rational, I should keep it. I think my minds made up.

I have yet to unpack from moving in and coming back home from the holidays. Let's hope I get my act together soon and clean my life up. My new internship starts on Monday! I finally get to dabble in product development, so fun, seriously! And of course I'm keeping Flare twice a week. I'm greedy.

48 hours from now...
I am back in my home town.
I would have had the best sleep in my own room and my own bed.
I would have had the biggest breakfast.
I would have been listening to Christmas carols all morning.
I would be getting ready for my sushi date with Dennis. <3>
Now, to face -43 weather.

I have so many expectations coming home! It's just been too long being away from home!! I just finished two finals and I have one more to go tomorrow morning. I have yet to pack but I will get through it tonight. The weather in Toronto has been really strange lately. One week it's freezing, think -10 (I'm such a tool now, I can't hack the brutality of Winnipeg weather) and the next it's +2 out with drizzling rain. 2012 you guys, the world is at an end, so with that said, live life, carpe diem! And always spend for the moment! And that is why I'm poor. Anyways. My little kitty Batman will be at my friends house for the 3 weeks I'm away, and I'm hoping he'll cope well and meet new little critters.

ps: I found this awhile back and I must mention how much I love her color palette! It's simply delicious. Now if only I could sport pink trousers as well as she can. My hero.

Going home early is the only thing that's keeping me going. I have never been more financially challenged in my life. It's a dose of reality that really gets to you when you're lying down at night and thinking about all the debt that's accumulating in addition to holidays just being around the corner. I've been crabby lately and unappreciative of what I have. This whole time I've been feeling pathetic because I don't own "this" or "that"... I've been so materialistic last year that this year has been a complete turn around from the excessive purchases and dinners that I was so accustomed to back home with family, friends and the boyfriend. I want to say I have the right to be materialistic because that's the industry I've chosen, my sister would argue otherwise with some sort of rationing, but I think this is good for me. I've looked at my wardrobe at least 3 or 4 times a night and really picked out what will last within the next couple years in accordance to quality and carry over classics. I think it's been beneficial in finding out what my true uniform is. I always knew it was dark, monochromatic colors, but I'm really looking to invest in quality pieces now, being broke will just not allow it any other way. Although on the bright side, going home will allow me to scower and raid my favourite vintage and second hand stores. Love you dinky Winnipeg.
-so lastly, it's exam time, last week of school with two major projects left to go. I have an intense interview tomorrow and I'm hoping this will lead me to the beginning of a promising career in fashion forecasting. Wish me luck friends**

Warning, the following is a rant and rave. Proceed at your own risk of boredom or simply my woes to be your entertainment for the night.
I'm currently juggling a full time schedule. Did I make it that way? Absolutely. Do I want it that way? I have no other choice. Can't afford to not have one of the three out of my life. My internship at FLARE has been amazing and I've been offered (also, I asked.) an extension for my last semester but at the same time I'm wanting to expand to fashion forecasting. Lucky for me, one of my teachers has the strings to pull me an awesome internship to really understand commercial trend forecasting. Fun! ha. Some people think otherwise. No biggie. And that would be in January, and as greedy as I am, I want both internships while working part time and going to school full time. Do-able? Absolutely. I'll just be so burnt out and I need to kiss ass at work to have the perfect schedule. Pressure is on for my last year and upcoming last semester to do as much as I can while I'm in school. ps: Buying test Thursday; I didn't even touch it. It's ok, because this whole weekend I've been scheduling dates with my couch and laptop watching CSI. Ha. Hey now. We all need a little time away from what we want to do in life, and crime scene investigating is a completely different world. Wow, that was lame. Anyways. Rant is over. I've cleared my head, this helped. Back to the goal. That's the thing, it keeps changing. Is that a good thing?

This is the epitome of what being drunk on Christmas is! Hazy, bright lights and the warmest feeling being with family, friends and the boyfriend :) I can't wait to be home for the holidays. Hot beverages with the girls, strong liqueur with the cousins, sushi dates with dennis, and the best shopping destinations in Winnipeg, Value Village. Honestly, my theory behind why value village in winnipeg is way more amazing and a complete gold mine is legit. The value villages in Toronto suck because they've been robbed and rummaged by all the vintage stores that Winnipeg lacks. So while all the best vintage pieces in Winnipeg are actually still in the value villages is because Winnipeg lacks the number of vintage stores in comparison to Toronto. It's brilliant. As well as, I'm convinced that the immigrants that come to Winnipeg donate all their goods because the majority would like to integrate into the north american culture, so they buy into the american eagle and guess image. I'm just saying. So, I'm psyched to go home to see all my favourite stores, especially VV.

I've always wanted to host a party on a roof top! I have a balcony, but it's too small to bbq on, and I suppose having a bbq grill would help in realizing that dream. Ha. Anyways, I wanted to share that we (sister and cousin) bagged a new apartment! It's a town house with three floors, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 sky lights, and a recording room downstairs. Don't ask. The recording room isn't that spectacular, but it's so random to have. Anyway, our move in date is right before exams, which is perfect since exam time will be hectic and moving would be hell. Along with the good news of bagging the new apartment, I finally got a part time gig at Urban Outfitters. I'm psyched that I didn't have to settle working for a retail store that made me dress like a tool. Or worse, a cashier at a grocery store. Not to say it's a crummy job, but it has nothing to do with what I want to do in life. But I suppose any job at this point being a student is a means to an end.

I'm also hoping to go home earlier in December for christmas. My internship would end by then, we'll see if I'm offered an extention :) You'll be the second to know (first would be dennis) Anyways, I think I have everything in control again, income-wise. ha. I was literally so broke from May to present because of school. Graduating in June of next year is so amazing, but then there comes debt. bah.

I haven't updated this poor thing in awhile. It seems as if I decided to take my own reading week when other schools have, even though my school wasn't given a reading week. I've been busy with... I can't even recall. My cousin was away for the week and was able to visit home, oh how I miss Winnipeg. I can say that I watched the September Issue twice, once in theaters with my sister (of course I dragged her.) and the second time, thanks for Bryan Boy for his link to the whole documentary! It was just as amazing as the first time I watched it! I still haven't watched Coco Avant Chanel! Boo. Speaking of Chanel, my best friends back home gave me my christmas gift a little early. (thank you, thank you!) It's so beautiful and it's my first Chanel product! Buying into the world of unattainable luxury, although with cosmetic products, I feel like I can still be part of that glamorous world some how. I discovered Tanja London's shoes from blog browsing once again. I've been having plenty of obsessions lately, but one I cannot ignore are wedged heels. I have this weakness for wedges, it could be because since I can't hack heals (the dream of coveting a precious pair of YSL's is slowly dying) and wedges have more stability, I feel safer? Ha. My mom had a couple pair of wedge sandals from the 70's which were Madrid style, but out of my mother's shoe collection, I always favoured the wedges. Miss you Ma.

Shoes galore! :) I was pretty psyched to be trying on theses bad boys all day, since I'm the generic display size seven. I was convinced shoes would come in at 9 and 10 for the models of course but since the marketing director does e-talk episodes she pulled display sizes, aka - my size. Pretty sweet! I got to catalog some Louboutins, Elizabeth and James, Jimmy Choo's for H&M, and great Aldo designer rips like YSL and Balmain. Unfortunately I didnt get to photograph some of the garments that got pulled for the episode from Holts such as Alexander Wang (my fav!!), D&G, Helmut Lang and a couple H&M Fall samples. I would say being surrounded by designer shoes and clothes with the addition of being at the office when FLARE hosts their monthly birthday parties with cheese cake and strawberries, today was a great day.
